FAQ for the Garmin maps found at eTrailGuide

Why can't I see any detail at my current zoom level?
There are 2 reasons for this, one, that was the way the maker of the map intentioned the map to be displayed or it is because of the settings of your GPS. Of course you have no control over the first but the second is easily changed. On the Map page, look in the menu for an item like ‘Setup Map’. Navigate through the different windows until you find an entry that says ‘Detail’. Change is to select the amount of detail you desire.

Why can’t I see trails that I know are there?

Why are the maps that I want, not display on my GPS receiver?
There are multiple reasons for this try:
  1. If there are multiple maps installed, you must select the map you want to display. To do this, from the Map page, go to the menu and select ‘Setup Map’. Navigate through the windows until you find the page where the installed maps are named. Unselect all maps except the one you want to use. Having multiple maps selected, slows the update rate of the GPS’s display.
  2. Sometimes, without reason, the maps disappear from the display. Cycle the display of the map from ‘on’ to ‘off’ as described in step 1.
  3. Look to see if the map you want to use is currently installed (see steps 1). When loading the maps to the GPS receiver, all currently installed will be deleted.

My Receiver runs slow after installing these maps.
There could be a few reasons.
First, read step 1 from “Why are the maps that I want not display on my GPS receiver?”
  2. I have found that the install sometimes has problems. Try downloading the maps again.

MapSource gives me an error when I try to open it or closes abruptly, what happened?
When MapSource opens, it scans the Window’s registry to see what maps that are available to it and checks to make sure all the data within those registry entries is correct. If any are wrong, you get the error. There 2 ways to fix it:
  1. Reinstall MapSource. Yes, that’s a pain.
  2. Download a utility that will analysis MapSource’s registry and provide a fix for you. Download the file and read its help file for more information.
